Description

‘Tjak Tjaka Tchicai’ is dedicated to the celebrated Danish jazz saxophonist and composer John Tchicai (1936 – 2012), who played a key role in the musical development of fellow-Dane Pierre D??rge. Alongside his orchestra, D??rge performs a mixture of original compositions by himself and bandmates, plus John Tchicai’s “Largo Lapidarius.”

Pierre D??rge’s New Jungle Orchestra has been around since 1980, albeit with some changes in the crew. They play “world music” with a mixture of jazz, Asian, African and European music – and general madness – they create their own Dadaistic universe, which gives the audience a unique and extraordinary experience.

“Danish composer-guitarist Pierre D??rge, like Charles Mingus before him, possesses an antic ardor for the striking horn voicings and ruminative soundscapes of Duke Ellington…The other signature trait that D??rge’s New Jungle Orchestra semi-big bands have displayed over their 30-plus years of existence is an ability to unleash a cosmopolitan pinwheel of moods, tones and textures.” – JazzTimes
