Description

1944 hardcover “wartime book” no dust jacket 184 pages. The autobiograpy of Thomas D. Harmon, a prewar college football player for the University of Michigan football team, the “Michigan Wolverines”. Number “98”. During World War II, he joined the U. S. Army Air Force. On April 9, 1943 Harmon took off piloting B-25D “Little Butch” 41-29964 on a ferry flight in South America. Due to bad weather, the right engine cut out causing the bomber to crash. Harmon was the only member of the crew that successfully bailed out. Four days later, Harmon reached a clearing in the jungle and was later rescued and returned to duty. Assigned to the 14th Air Force in CBI, on October 30, 1943 Harmon took off piloting P-38G Lightning 42-13415 over Kiukiang and bailed out. He escaped from behind enemy lines with the help of Chinese Communists.
