Description
1965, hardcover edition, Doubleday, NY. 231 pages. Black and white photographs. The sub-title of this volume reads: “The Dramatic Story of the Planning, Building, and Operating of the Bridge.” The bridge itself began life in 1933 and opened for the first time in 1937. Some very brave individuals had a picnic on the 4,200 foot main span the day it opened, and hundreds, if not thousands, have committed suicide there since. Very well written by a former newspaper writer.
