Description
Over the years Holiday has published portraits of all the states of the Union including the two newest portraits which reflected their history, their people, and their personalities. This series, written by some of America’s most gifted writers, has formed the outline of the magazine’s continuing mosaic of America. This volume is part of that total picture – the twenty-four states west of the Mississippi. It is representative of the whole for at least two reasons. It dramatizes our continual differences – the difference between Wyoming and Louisiana, for example, or Minnesota and New Mexico. It also sounds like another and greater theme, the theme of unity which in combination has formed and defined this country.
