Description

Library of the Early Civilizations This ia an expansion of the chapter first published in The dawn of civilization, 1961, edited by Stuart Piggott. The author’s aim was to select the best specimens to illustrate his theme from Egypt’s earliest beginning to the end of the Old Kingdom. In so doing he endeavored to include all the pieces of great distinction. Apart from the Pyramid Texts, few literary remains survive & it’s from an appreciation of artistic modes & concepts, rather than an intellectual analysis of philosophical beliefs, that a deeper insight into a prescientific culture, such as that of Old Kingdom Egypt, may be obtained.
