Each lesson opens with a short model text in Spanish, dealing with topics of everyday life. The model texts combine narration or description with dialogue, and contain examples of all that is new, in vocabulary and constructions. The aim throughout is (1) to supply a reasonable amount of ready-made conversational material, (2) to help develop fluency through appropriate drills, and (3) to emphasize original, independent use of the language. The twenty-five lessons follow a natural sequence of ideas, paralleled by a gradual progression in syntactical difficulty.
